How konnetix stopped ransomware in its tracks

Over the past few years, cyber bandits have gravitated to ransomware to fleece unsuspecting individuals and businesses. Ransomware is a type of malware that restricts access to a computer, typically using encryption, allowing attackers to demand payment to unlock it. There is a wide variety of ransomware proliferating today, and it is constantly evolving, making it difficult for Security Software companies to stay ahead of.

Konnetix is an IT service provider based in Hitchin its founder Darren Billinghurst has been in the IT business for over 20 years, so we have seen a bit of everything, including ransomware attacks. My team has helped a number of clients recover following these attacks recently, including RHL, a logistics company with offices in Stevenage and London. Lucky for them Konnetix had the experience and technology in place to bring them back online fast.

When the virus was transmitted to RHL through an email attachment, things got messy. The virus spread from the employee’s workstation to the servers, crippling their businesses and restricting access to various files.

However, Konnetix quickly tracked the virus back to the initial machine and reverted to a backup prior to when the infection occurred. Konnetix successfully restored all of the companies’ data and RHL suffered minimal data loss and downtime.

Education is essential when dealing with ransomware. While having antivirus software and a business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) are imperative, education is equally important. Employees must have the ability to recognize suspicious and dangerous emails, and understand the ramifications involved when this threat hits a system.

Richard: – Konnetix are lifesavers, simply brilliant their prompt action and disaster recovery solution saved my business from being crippled by these cyber terrorists, any business without a DR policy is a disaster waiting to happen.
